The Owens Corning Platinum Protection Limited Lifetime Warranty is Owens Corning’s top residential roof warranty. It covers the complete Owens Corning roof system against manufacturing defects, with a 50-year TRU PROtection non-prorated period on lifetime shingles for a single-family home, and it adds workmanship coverage, fully covered for the first 25 years, for installation errors that cause leaks or hurt the roof’s performance. To get it, three things must be true: the roof must be installed by an Owens Corning Roofing Platinum Preferred Contractor, it must use the required Owens Corning components over a clean, fully torn-off deck, and the contractor must register it with Owens Corning within 60 days of installation. Integrity Roofing and Painting is an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred contractor. Everything below comes from Owens Corning’s warranty document, Pub. No. 10020608-O (August 2026), which applies to shingles bought after August 1, 2026.

The requirements to qualify
Owens Corning lists these eligibility requirements:
- Installer. An Owens Corning Roofing Platinum Preferred Contractor, installing to Owens Corning’s application instructions and the local building code.
- Registration. The contractor registers the warranty within 60 days of installation.
- Whole roof, ventilated deck. The system must cover the entire structure over a ventilated deck. Partial roofs and unvented decks do not qualify.
- Full tear-off. All old roofing, felt, ice and water membrane, flashing and vents removed, and damaged decking or chimney mortar repaired.
- Required components:
- Owens Corning shingles
- Owens Corning synthetic underlayment (or full-deck Owens Corning ice and water barrier)
- Owens Corning hip and ridge shingles (DecoRidge, DuraRidge, ImpactRidge, ProEdge or RIZERidge)
- Plus two of three: Owens Corning ice and water barrier, Owens Corning starter shingles, or VentSure ventilation as a balanced intake and exhaust system
- New metal. New flashings and drip edge, with counterflashing where needed.
In Colorado Springs, the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department’s reroof guidelines (rev. 03/05/2024) line up with several of these: new asphalt shingles cannot go over existing layers, drip edge is required at eaves and rakes, and homes above 7,000 feet need an ice barrier from the eave to at least 24 inches inside the exterior wall. Our Integrity Roofing System shows how each layer goes on.
What it covers and for how long
For a single-family detached home, the warranty table reads:
| Shingle line | Warranty | TRU PROtection (non-prorated) | Workmanship | Wind | Algae |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Duration series (includes Duration FLEX and STORM) | Limited lifetime | 50 years | Lifetime, prorated after year 25 | 130 mph; 160 mph enhanced with required parts | 25 years |
| Oakridge | Limited lifetime | 50 years | Lifetime, prorated after year 25 | 110 mph, or 130 mph with 6 nails and OC starter | 25 years |
| Woodcrest and Woodmoor | Limited lifetime | 50 years | Lifetime, prorated after year 25 | 130 mph | 25 years |
| Supreme (3-tab) | 25 years | 15 years | 15 years | 60 mph | 10 years |
What those columns mean:
- TRU PROtection. During this period Owens Corning pays to repair, replace or recover defective products, including tear-off and disposal, subject to limits. All the Owens Corning components share the shingle’s period.
- Workmanship. For the first 25 years, if an installation error causes leaks or materially affects performance, Owens Corning arranges the repair or pays the reasonable cost of labor and materials, including flashing at valleys, dormers, chimneys and vents. After 25 years, compensation is prorated.
- Algae. The 25-year algae coverage requires one of the qualifying Owens Corning ridge products; without one it drops to 10 years.
For “other types of structures” the numbers are shorter, so ask if the building is not a detached house.
What it does not cover
- Hail. Hail, strong storms and wind above the rated speed are excluded as acts of God. A hail claim goes to your homeowners insurer, not Owens Corning. That is why the warranty and a Class 4 shingle solve different problems.
- Non-Owens Corning parts, such as flashing, fasteners, pipe boots and decking.
- Ventilation and drainage problems, foot traffic, falling branches, and pre-existing structural issues.
- Wind before the shingles seal. Shingles need several days of direct warm sun to thermally seal; wind damage before that is not a defect.
Disputes are subject to a one-year limit after a cause of action accrues, so do not sit on a problem.
Transferring it when you sell
The warranty can transfer once, to the buyer of the house. The new owner must, within 60 days of the real estate transfer, submit through Owens Corning’s website proof of purchase of the roof system, the installation date and ownership history, and a $100 fee.
- Transfer within the first 20 years (lifetime shingles): the buyer gets the rest of the TRU PROtection period, and the workmanship period becomes 25 years from the original installation date.
- Transfer after 20 years: coverage drops to a 2-year period after the sale, and the workmanship coverage ends. Wind and algae coverage transfer in full for their remaining terms.
If you are selling, hand the buyer the registration certificate and installation invoice. If you are buying, ask for them.
Repairs, storms and keeping it valid
- First two years: installation errors are the installer’s responsibility to fix. If that contractor cannot or will not, Owens Corning arranges the repair.
- Repairs: a repair done by a Platinum Preferred contractor with Owens Corning products keeps the warranty in force.
- Full replacement: if a claim results in the whole roof system being removed and replaced, this warranty is void. A newly installed and registered system can earn a new Platinum Protection warranty.
After hail, have a Platinum Preferred contractor do the inspection and repair so the warranty survives.
