Key numbers
77 verified hail storms with stones of 1.75 inches or larger reached Travis County, which includes Austin, from 1984 to 2025 in the storm records we keep; the largest measured 5 inches (softball size) on May 20, 2011 (NOAA NCEI).

A storm counts when NOAA lists a report in Travis County. Each hail size is the storm's largest report in the seven Austin-area counties, which may have fallen in a neighboring county, and insured losses cover every area the storm hit.
Integrity Roofing and Painting paints the exteriors of homes in Austin and nearby Hill Country towns, using Sherwin-Williams and Behr paints. In Central Texas, paint fails from heat, humidity, mildew and storms rather than cold, so our prep focuses on cleaning and treating mildew, sealing gaps where humid air and rain get in, priming bare wood, and painting at the cooler times of day.
Surfaces we paint in Austin homes
Exterior work covers wood, fiber cement, stucco and painted brick, plus trim, fascia, soffits and eaves, front doors, shutters, garage doors, porch ceilings and columns.
What Austin weather does to paint
Heat. Long, hot summers push wall temperatures past what many paints are rated for. Behr’s data sheet for Premium Plus Exterior lists an application range of 35 to 90°F, held for at least four hours afterward. Purdue Extension and the USDA Forest Products Laboratory warn that fresh paint heated by direct sun can blister, especially dark colors and thick coats. We start early, follow the shade and stop before walls bake.
Humidity and mildew. Shaded walls, north sides and areas under trees stay damp and grow mildew. Painting over live mildew guarantees it returns. We wash, treat and dry the surface first (see mildew on exterior paint and siding), and Behr describes its Premium Plus Exterior as having a mildew-resistant finish.
Rain and storms. Heavy downpours and hail chip trim, soak bare wood and test every caulk joint. Check paint along with the roof after a storm; see Austin hail damage.
Wood movement. Wood siding and trim swell in humid weather and contract in dry spells, opening joints. Fresh, flexible caulk and primed end grain keep water out.
Products and warranties
On Austin jobs, the upper temperature limit matters more than the lower one. Sherwin-Williams backs Duration Exterior Acrylic Latex with its own lifetime limited warranty, and Behr calls Premium Plus Exterior Flat a 100% acrylic paint and primer. Any product warranty comes from the paint maker; the workmanship terms in your contract come from us. HOAs in Circle C, Steiner Ranch and other planned neighborhoods often approve colors first, so we supply color names and product sheets for submittals.
Pre-1978 Austin houses
Central neighborhoods such as Hyde Park, Travis Heights and Bouldin Creek have many homes older than 1978. Scraping or sanding more than 20 square feet of old exterior paint on one of them is covered by EPA’s lead renovation rule, and because Texas has no authorized state program, EPA runs it directly. Let us know the build year up front.
Paint with other exterior work
Paint goes on last. If the house also needs siding replacement, window replacement, roof replacement or gutters, we finish those first so new trim and caulk are painted once.
