A storm counts when the library lists El Paso County among the areas it hit. Each hail size is the storm's largest report, which may have fallen in a neighboring county, and insured losses cover every area the storm hit.

Integrity Roofing and Painting paints interiors in Colorado Springs homes: walls, ceilings, trim, doors, cabinets and built-ins. We use Sherwin-Williams and Behr paints, choose the product line by room and surface, and spend most of the job on prep, because patching, sanding, priming and clean lines are what make interior paint look right. Many interior jobs start with a ceiling stain after a roof leak, so we can fix the roof and repaint the ceiling as one project.

What we paint inside

SurfaceWhat matters most
WallsPatching nail holes and cracks, sanding, and a washable finish in busy rooms
CeilingsStain-blocking primer over old water marks; flat finish to hide flaws
Trim and doorsCleaning, sanding glossy old paint, and a hard enamel finish
CabinetsDegreasing, de-glossing and a bonding primer before the topcoat
Leak-damaged areasFixing the leak first, letting drywall dry, then sealing the stain

Dry air and altitude inside

Colorado Springs homes are dry most of the year, especially with the furnace running. Drywall mud and paint dry faster than the can’s “at 77 degrees and 50 percent humidity” times, which helps scheduling but makes lap marks more likely on big walls. We keep a wet edge, work a wall at a time and avoid painting right in front of forced-air registers. Dry air also opens hairline cracks at drywall seams and corners, so we caulk and patch those before painting.

Water stains after roof or ice dam leaks

A brown ring on the ceiling means water came through. Painting over it without fixing the source only hides the next leak. We trace the leak, fix the roof, flashing or ice dam problem, make sure the drywall is dry, cut out soft drywall if needed, then seal the stain with a stain-blocking primer so it does not bleed through. See Colorado Springs roof repair and snow and ice damage if the stain followed a storm.

Ventilation and VOCs

EPA lists paints among household products that release volatile organic compounds while drying. Its advice is to increase ventilation when using them, follow label directions, and not keep leftover paint around. We open windows or run fans while painting, keep lids closed, and leave you only the touch-up quantity you want.

Lead paint in older homes

In housing built before 1978, interior work that disturbs more than 6 square feet of painted surface in a room is covered by EPA’s Renovation, Repair and Painting rule, which requires certified firms and lead-safe practices. Read lead-safe prep for pre-1978 homes for what that means for your project.

Frequently Asked Questions

What paint brands do you use inside?

Sherwin-Williams and Behr. We pick the product line by room and surface, such as a scrubbable finish for kitchens and halls and an enamel for trim and doors, and follow that product's data sheet for prep, temperature and recoat times.

Can you paint over a water stain from a roof leak?

Yes, once the leak is fixed and the drywall is dry. A water stain bleeds through ordinary paint, so we seal it with a stain-blocking primer first, then paint the whole ceiling plane so the patch does not show.

How long before we can use a freshly painted room?

Most latex paints are dry to the touch within hours, but they take weeks to fully cure. Behr's data sheet for one exterior line, for example, lists two hours to recoat and four weeks to full cure. Treat new paint gently for the first few weeks.

Do you paint interiors in homes built before 1978?

Interior work that disturbs more than 6 square feet of painted surface per room in pre-1978 housing falls under EPA's lead Renovation, Repair and Painting rule. Tell us the home's age when you book so the job is planned for it.

Is the paint smell harmful?

Paints release volatile organic compounds as they dry. EPA advises increasing ventilation, following label directions and not storing leftover paint indoors. We ventilate rooms during and after painting.
