The July 20, 2009 storm brought hail and wind to the Denver metro. Early reports named Wheat Ridge, Lakewood, Arvada and Englewood, and NCEI holds 23 reports in Broomfield, Douglas, Jefferson, Larimer and Weld counties, with hail up to 2 inches.
A week later, on July 27, 2009, the early count was about 19,500 auto claims and 32,900 homeowners claims, when RMIIA's estimate was still $350 million. RMIIA's final figure is $767.6 million in insured losses, or $1.18 billion in 2026 dollars; final claim totals were not found. NOAA lists it as a billion-dollar disaster at $1,000 million unadjusted, insured and uninsured combined.
