Key numbers
45 verified hail storms with stones of 1.75 inches or larger reached Denver County from 1984 to 2026 in the storm records we keep; the largest measured 4.5 inches (softball size) on July 13, 2011 (NOAA NCEI).

A storm counts when the library lists Denver County among the areas it hit. Each hail size is the storm's largest report, which may have fallen in a neighboring county, and insured losses cover every area the storm hit.
Integrity Roofing and Painting paints exteriors and interiors of homes across Denver and its suburbs, using Sherwin-Williams and Behr paints. Outside, Denver’s mile-high sun, hail and freeze-thaw nights decide how long a paint job lasts, so most of our effort goes into prep: washing, scraping, sanding, priming bare spots, sealing joints and painting each wall out of direct sun. Inside, we paint walls, ceilings, trim and cabinets, often after fixing the roof leak that stained them. See interior painting in Denver for inside work.
What we paint
| Outside | Inside |
|---|---|
| Wood, fiber cement and stucco siding | Walls and ceilings |
| Trim, fascia and soffits | Trim, doors and railings |
| Front doors and garage doors | Cabinets and built-ins |
| Gutters and downspouts, where sound | Leak-stained ceilings, after the leak is fixed |
What Denver weather does to paint
Sun. Denver sits at 5,280 feet, and the EPA notes UV at ground level depends on altitude, among other factors. South and west walls chalk and fade first. A dark cloth rubbed across the paint tells you: color on the cloth means the surface is eroding. See chalking and fading.
Hail. Storms chip paint on siding, trim and garage doors, leaving bare spots that take on water. Check after each storm; Denver hail damage covers the roof side of the same inspection.
Neighborhood rules. Many neighborhoods, from Highlands Ranch to Central Park, have HOA color approval. We provide color names and product details for submittals.
Freeze-thaw and dry air. Wood shrinks and swells through big day-to-night swings, opening caulk joints and cracking paint films. Water that gets in freezes overnight and pushes paint off. Fresh caulk and sealed end grain are part of every exterior job.
Products and application limits
We use exterior lines from both brands. Behr’s data sheet for Premium Plus Exterior describes a 100% acrylic paint and primer with a mildew-resistant finish, to be applied between 35 and 90°F and kept in that range for at least four hours afterward. Sherwin-Williams rates Duration Exterior Acrylic Latex for application down to 35°F and backs it with its own lifetime limited warranty. Those limits and warranties are the paint makers’; our workmanship terms are in your contract. Purdue Extension and the Forest Products Laboratory warn that fresh paint heated by direct sun can blister, so we follow the shade around the house.
Older Denver homes
Many Denver-area homes were built before 1978. In those homes, EPA’s Renovation, Repair and Painting rule covers paid work that disturbs more than 6 square feet of paint per room inside or 20 square feet outside, and requires certified firms and lead-safe practices. Colorado is not on EPA’s list of states that run their own program, so EPA administers it. Tell us your home’s age when you book.
Exterior paint and other exterior work
Paint goes on last. If the house also needs siding replacement, window replacement or a roof replacement, we schedule those first so new trim, flashing and caulk are painted once. Gutters and downspouts are often painted or replaced in the same project; see Denver gutters. If your siding is fiber cement, James Hardie calls for 100% acrylic topcoats and no stain; our fiber cement siding page has the details.
