On May 22, 1996, hail up to 2 inches fell in Adams, Jefferson and Larimer counties. The 11 NCEI reports name West Arvada, Arvada, Thornton, Westminster, Golden and Standley Lake, with one report as far north as Loveland. The NWS damage estimate in NCEI is $120 million, which is a property-damage estimate rather than an insured-loss figure.
A 2009 Claims Journal article citing RMIIA gives the exact date and $122 million in insured losses. RMIIA's own table lists the storm as May 1996, at $252 million in 2025 dollars.
