To report a home insurance claim for roof or storm damage, you can use the claims line, app or online account each carrier names on its own website, or call your agent. The carrier guides below collect, for 15 carriers that write homeowners policies in Colorado and Texas, what each company publishes about filing a property claim: the phone number, the app, the steps after you file, and how its inspections and payments work. Every fact comes from the carrier's own site or a state regulator, with the date we checked it.
General information, not legal advice. Integrity Roofing and Painting is a veteran-owned, family-run roofing contractor, in business since 1990 (more than 35 years), with 650+ Google reviews. We are not affiliated with any carrier listed here and we never file, negotiate or settle claims. We inspect your roof and make sure nothing gets missed in the scope, from offices in Colorado Springs ((719) 488-2800), Denver ((303) 209-0152) and Austin ((512) 610-5897), and we respond the same business day.

Colorado rules every home insurer must follow
- Your policy, fast. C.R.S. 10-4-110.8(10): the insurer must send an electronic or paper copy of your policy, declarations page and endorsements within three business days of your request, and a certified copy within 30 days. Read the loss settlement section before the adjuster visits.
- No short lawsuit windows. C.R.S. 10-4-110.8(12): a homeowners policy issued or renewed since January 1, 2014 cannot require you to sue sooner than the statute of limitations allows.
- Fair claim handling. C.R.S. 10-4-110.8(4) ties every home insurer to the unfair claim settlement practices in C.R.S. 10-3-1104(1)(h). Delaying or denying a covered benefit without a reasonable basis is barred by C.R.S. 10-3-1115, and 10-3-1116 lets a policyholder sue over it. That is a question for an attorney.
- Code upgrade coverage. C.R.S. 10-4-110.8(6): before issuing or renewing a replacement cost policy, the insurer must offer law and ordinance coverage of at least 20% of the dwelling limit and explain its cost. It pays the added cost of meeting current building codes during repairs, subject to your policy.
- Total losses. After a total loss, the insurer must allow at least 365 days to submit a contents inventory, with longer timelines after a wildfire disaster the governor declares.

Texas rules every home insurer must follow
- Prompt payment. TDI explains that your company has 15 business days to acknowledge your claim and 15 business days after it gets what it needs to accept or reject it, with any rejection explained in writing. It may take an extra 45 days if it tells you why. Insurance Code 542.057 then allows 5 business days to pay.
- Notice before a lawsuit. For damage caused by hail, wind or other forces of nature, Insurance Code 542A.003 generally requires written notice at least 61 days before suing the insurer.
- More than one claim. TDI notes you may need separate claims for wind, flood and other damage. Coastal windstorm policies go to the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association, not your home insurer.
- Help. TDI Help Line, 800-252-3439, weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central.
Our Texas roof claim deadline guide and Colorado storm claim rights guide cover each rule in depth.
Before you call any carrier
- Make the home safe and limit further damage, such as a tarp over an opening. Keep the receipts.
- Photograph the damage from the ground and inside. Leave roof walking to the adjuster or a roofer.
- Find your policy number, the wind and hail deductible on the declarations page, and your mortgage company's name.
- Write down the claim number and your adjuster's direct contact the first time you talk.
- Hold permanent repairs until the insurer has seen the damage, unless it tells you otherwise in writing.
For the whole sequence, from inspection to the final depreciation check, read the roof insurance claim process step by step.
