How to File an Allstate Home or Hail Claim

Allstate sends most wind and hail claims to a vendor inspection first. Here is how that works, step by step.

Veteran-owned Family-run since 1990 650+ Google reviews

To file an Allstate home claim, you can call 1-800-ALLSTATE (1-800-255-7828), start it in My Account at allstate.com, or call your Allstate agent. Allstate says your policy requires you to report damage to your home even when it looks minimal, because skipping the report risks coverage for damage found later. Most wind and hail claims then go to a vendor inspection.

Before you start an Allstate claim

Allstate’s home claims page lists what helps when you open the claim:

  • Contact information for any contractor already involved
  • Notes on what is damaged and the likely cause
  • Photos of the damage
  • The date it happened and the weather conditions at the time

You can start with whatever details you have and add the rest later. Allstate also reminds you that you pay any applicable deductible before coverage applies, that a home policy can carry different deductibles for different coverages, and that a loss may affect your premium. After you file, you get a claim number to track progress.

The Allstate wind and hail process, step by step

Allstate publishes a separate process for wind, hail and other vendor-inspected claims:

  1. Inspection scheduling. Unless the inspection is waived, an Allstate inspection vendor contacts you within 24 to 72 hours of the claim to schedule an on-site visit.
  2. Vendor inspection. The vendor photographs the damage, gathers damage information and sends the package to a claims adjuster.
  3. Adjuster assigned. After the inspection, an adjuster introduces themselves and explains what happens next.
  4. Coverage decision. The adjuster reviews the photo package, calls you to discuss it and makes a coverage determination. If the loss is covered, the adjuster prepares an estimate.
  5. Payment. If covered damage exceeds your deductible, the adjuster talks through payment options. Claim documents appear in MyClaim.

On timing, Allstate says the adjuster can usually evaluate the claim within 48 hours of introducing themselves, once the vendor has inspected and photographed the damage. Severity, access, safety and evacuation orders can all stretch that.

What the inspector looks at

Allstate says that on most exterior storm claims the inspection goes beyond the areas you reported. The inspector typically checks gutters, siding, downspouts, fences, windows and other exposed surfaces to understand what the storm did in your area. That is worth knowing: soft-metal dents on gutters, vents and downspouts are some of the clearest evidence of hail size, and they support the roof findings.

Additional damage and contractors

If repairs uncover more damage, Allstate asks for an estimate or photos. Contact your adjuster through MyClaim or by email with the claim number in the subject line, ask for a link to submit photos of the missed damage, and have your contractor send an estimate for it. The adjuster then decides whether a re-inspection is needed.

For repairs, Allstate offers its Good Hands Repair Network and says its warrantied vendors provide a three-year labor warranty after storm claims. You can also use a contractor outside the network. If you do, the useful thing to bring to the adjuster’s review is a complete scope with photos, so the vendor package and the repair plan line up and nothing gets missed in the scope.

State rules that apply to a Allstate claim

Colorado. The Colorado Division of Insurance regulates home insurers. C.R.S. 10-4-110.8(10) requires your insurer to send a copy of your policy, with the declarations page and endorsements, within three business days of your request, or a certified copy within 30 days. Before issuing or renewing a replacement cost policy, the insurer must offer law and ordinance coverage of at least 20% of the dwelling limit, which pays the added cost of meeting current building codes, subject to your policy. A homeowners policy cannot cut the time to sue below the statute of limitations, and claim handling must follow the unfair practices rules in C.R.S. 10-3-1104(1)(h). DOI Consumer Services: 303-894-7490.

Texas. The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) says your company has 15 business days (about 3 weeks) to acknowledge a claim and 15 business days after it gets what it needs to decide, with a written reason for any rejection. It can take an extra 45 days if it tells you why. Insurance Code 542.057 then gives it 5 business days to pay. Before suing over hail or wind damage, Insurance Code 542A.003 generally requires written notice at least 61 days ahead. Your policy sets your own reporting deadline. TDI Help Line: 800-252-3439.
