The four claim steps Texas Farm Bureau describes
In its member publication, Texas Farm Bureau Insurance breaks the claims process into four steps after you file:
- Coverage review. An assigned adjuster reviews your policy and its coverages to see what types of damage are covered.
- First contact. A representative reaches out and asks what happened or what caused the damage to your property.
- Inspection and estimate. An adjuster inspects the damaged property and provides an estimate for the damages.
- Payment. You are paid for your property’s covered damages.
The company notes that the adjuster typically reaches out to you, and that your agent is the person to call if you have trouble connecting with the adjuster.
Working with your adjuster
The same article lists habits that keep a claim moving:
- Write down the adjuster’s name, phone number and email address.
- Answer the adjuster’s questions as soon as you can. A claims leader quoted in the article puts it simply: the faster you reply, the faster they get back to you.
- Be available when the adjuster visits so you can point out the damage.
- Keep a list of what the adjuster or company needs from you.
On documentation, the advice is photos and video, plus anything that paints a clear picture of what happened for the adjuster.
Storm claim clinics
Texas Farm Bureau Insurance describes setting up local claim clinics after large weather events. Its example is a March 2024 hailstorm in Bellville that left trees down and power out. The company opened a clinic staffed with adjusters who traveled from across the state, helping several policyholders at a time in person. If a big hail day hits the Austin area, ask your agent whether a clinic is planned.
Texas roofs and more than one claim
The Texas Department of Insurance points out that, depending on the damage and where you live, you may need more than one insurance claim. Flood damage goes to your flood insurer. Coastal homes with a Texas Windstorm Insurance Association policy report wind damage there. Your declarations page shows which perils your homeowners policy covers.
Before the adjuster comes
In Central Texas, spring hail often lands on roofs already aged by summer heat. An inspection that separates fresh hail hits from older wear is the most useful thing you can bring to the adjuster’s visit. We photograph each slope and the soft metals, write a line-item scope, and make sure nothing gets missed in the scope. Texas Farm Bureau Insurance decides what your policy covers. State rules that apply to a Texas Farm Bureau Insurance claim
Texas. The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) says your company has 15 business days (about 3 weeks) to acknowledge a claim and 15 business days after it gets what it needs to decide, with a written reason for any rejection. It can take an extra 45 days if it tells you why. Insurance Code 542.057 then gives it 5 business days to pay. Before suing over hail or wind damage, Insurance Code 542A.003 generally requires written notice at least 61 days ahead. Your policy sets your own reporting deadline. TDI Help Line: 800-252-3439.
