To file a Farmers Insurance home claim, you can call the Farmers claims center at 1-800-435-7764 or report the claim online at farmers.com. Farmers says online filing needs only your policy number and a few details. A Farmers claims representative then contacts you to go over your coverages, and many claims are handled remotely with photos, mobile apps or drones.

What Farmers says happens after you report
Farmers keeps its published process short. After you file, a Farmers claims representative contacts you to go over your policy coverages and explain how they apply to the claim. You can find your representative through the “find my claims representative” tool on its claims page.
From there:
- Damage review. Farmers says it tries to handle most claims remotely, through photos, mobile apps and even drones. When that is not enough, an on-site inspection is scheduled.
- Documents. You can upload receipts and documents after logging in, or through a separate upload link without a login.
- Tracking. Claim status, documents and payments are viewable online around the clock.
- Repairs. Farmers’ self-service tools let you set up or change home repairs and schedule emergency services. Its claims FAQ also links a contractor search for your area.
Farmers is direct about deductibles: when you file on your own policy, you pay the deductible even if you are not at fault, and Farmers may recover it from an at-fault party’s insurer and refund it to you.
For large weather events, Farmers points to its Catastrophe Center, which covers storm preparation and what to do after damage. Its FAQ also mentions CAT Corps units; if one is set up in your area, staff there can connect you with a Farmers claims representative.
Farmers’ advice before hail season
Farmers’ hail preparation page reads like a checklist for anyone on the Front Range or in Central Texas:
- Know your hail deductible. Some policies carry a separate hail deductible, often a percentage of the home’s insured value rather than a flat amount. A percentage deductible can be several thousand dollars, so look it up on the declarations page before a storm, not after.
- Check the roof age on the policy. Older roofs may be handled differently than newer roofs depending on the policy terms and endorsements. Farmers suggests confirming with your agent that the roof age on your policy is correct.
- Small hail still counts. Farmers notes that hailstones range from small pellets to softball size, and that even smaller hail can weaken roofing materials over time, which can lead to leaks later.
- Protect and document. Once it is safe, photograph or video any visible damage, keep receipts for emergency repairs and materials, and take reasonable steps to prevent more damage, such as a tarp over a roof opening.
Making a remote review work
When a claim is reviewed from photos instead of a ladder, the quality of the photos decides a lot. Wide shots of each roof slope, close-ups of hits with a scale reference, and photos of soft metals such as vents, gutters and downspouts make the damage readable from a desk. That is the documentation we hand homeowners after an inspection, together with a scope that lists every roof component, so nothing gets missed in the scope when Farmers compares it with its own estimate.
State rules that apply to a Farmers Insurance claim
Colorado. The Colorado Division of Insurance regulates home insurers. C.R.S. 10-4-110.8(10) requires your insurer to send a copy of your policy, with the declarations page and endorsements, within three business days of your request, or a certified copy within 30 days. Before issuing or renewing a replacement cost policy, the insurer must offer law and ordinance coverage of at least 20% of the dwelling limit, which pays the added cost of meeting current building codes, subject to your policy. A homeowners policy cannot cut the time to sue below the statute of limitations, and claim handling must follow the unfair practices rules in C.R.S. 10-3-1104(1)(h). DOI Consumer Services: 303-894-7490.
Texas. The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) says your company has 15 business days (about 3 weeks) to acknowledge a claim and 15 business days after it gets what it needs to decide, with a written reason for any rejection. It can take an extra 45 days if it tells you why. Insurance Code 542.057 then gives it 5 business days to pay. Before suing over hail or wind damage, Insurance Code 542A.003 generally requires written notice at least 61 days ahead. Your policy sets your own reporting deadline. TDI Help Line: 800-252-3439.
